Golf lessons are no substitute for hard work. They lay the foundation, but it takes the individual to be committed to becoming a better golfer. Golf lessons are also no “band-aid” for a poor swing. The fix (lesson) may work for some time but eventually the poor swing mechanics will show their ugly head again. My comment is simply this, it takes dedication to the game of golf in all facets including body, mind, and soul to become a better golfer. Lessons start the path of dedication.

Dear Patho1648,
Thank you for your comments. I do agree that a player must work hard on their game, however, hard work is no substitute for proper training. An instructor should be educating the student on all aspects of the game, and certainly not teaching the student to compensate for poor swing mechanics. It is always better to work “smart” as opposed to working “hard.” A dedicated and committed individual with the help of the trained eye of a professional instructor will decrease the time needed to improve dramatically.
Again, I emphasise the fact that the best players in the world do not try to improve their golf games alone. They rely on trained golf professionals to help them in the process. Please don’t underestimate the value of a GOOD GOLF LESSON!

Dear Jeff,
I agree that a trained golf professional is great to have as a golfer works hard and smart to attain his goals of becoming a better golfer. But I believe that hard work is still the back bone to becoming successful in attaining ones goals. Tiger has had two major swing changes, with the help of Hank Haney, but it was his hard work and determination that his swing has become what it is today. “Where there is a will there is a way.” Bubba Watson and J.B. Holmes are prime examples of PGA players that have never had a professional lesson or teaching lesson. Their swings evoloved from hard work, determination, and dedication. Please don’t underestimate the value of a golfer that is dedicated and is willing to work hard to become a better golfer.

Dear Patho1648,
It sounds as if you are a hard working individual who is very serious about the game. Those are extremely important qualities for someone to have who wants to reach the pinnacle of performance in golf. I wish you the best of luck with your endeavors, whether they be with the help of an instructor or on your own.
Personal growth does come from within, and the road to success is often paved alone. I do wonder, however, if the view from the top of the mountain is better alone or with those that helped you reach it.
It is great to have people like yourself so enthusiastic about the game. Please keep the comments coming.
Thanks for golfing with Jeff

Personal growth does come from within, but it is greatly influenced with those around you. To be a better golfer you need to play with better golfers. This can best be summed up by my mother who stated, “Don’t forget where you came from. Don’t forgett those who helped you get where you are today but take the time to thank those people. Because if you don’t all those that you took for granted on your way up the ladder will be there to watch you on your way down.” I have a great love for the game, and I work extremely hard to be better than others. I have been blessed with a great teaching pro and I hope to continue my work with him for years to come.

Patho,
Somehow I knew that you and I were on the same page. The “pearls” of wisdom that came from your mother and many greats before her are the truth. Be true to yourself and those around you and true rewards will folow.
People like yourself make this site a success!
Thanks for golfing with Jeff
